Summer means sun, fun, and... barbecuing! But how do you ensure you enjoy a delicious BBQ without sacrificing your healthy lifestyle? Good news: barbecuing and healthy eating go hand in hand. With these tips, you'll make every BBQ a responsible and delicious experience.
1. Choose lean meat or fish
Go for chicken breast, turkey, steak, shrimp, or a piece of salmon on the BBQ. These options are protein-rich, nutritious, and fit perfectly into a healthy lifestyle. Marinate them yourself with olive oil, garlic, fresh herbs, or lemon – this way you avoid ready-made sauces loaded with sugar and salt.
2. Vegetables are the star of the BBQ
Grilled vegetables are not only delicious but also incredibly nutritious. Think zucchini, bell peppers, eggplant, mushrooms, fennel, green asparagus, or even cauliflower florets. Drizzle them with a little oil and herbs and roast them until lightly caramelized – delicious!
3. Make a fresh, light salad
A salad on the table offers a nice counterpoint to the hot dishes. Use a base of arugula or lamb's lettuce and add, for example, cucumber, radish, grilled vegetables, and a handful of sunflower seeds or hemp seeds. Opt for a dressing of olive oil and lemon juice instead of creamy options.
4. Be careful with sauces
Sauces can make or break your BBQ. Avoid pre-made options and make your own! Think yogurt sauce with garlic and chives. You'll have more control over what goes into it – and it's often much tastier.
5. Choose a smart substitute for baguette
Baguette with herb butter is a classic, but not the most NewFysic-friendly choice. Instead, opt for crackers, cucumber slices, or grilled vegetable slices for dipping. This keeps it lighter and more nutritious.
6. Drink smart
A BBQ is all about having a good time, but be careful with soda, fruit juice, or alcohol. Opt for sparkling water with mint and lime, NewFysic detox tea, or a glass of water with cucumber and ginger slices. Just as refreshing!
7. Enjoy consciously
Perhaps the most important tip: savor your food mindfully. Eat slowly, savor what you eat, and listen to your fullness. A healthy lifestyle isn't about giving up everything, but about making conscious choices—even during a cozy barbecue.
