At NewFysic, we recommend drinking little to no alcohol while losing weight. Not only does alcohol contain a lot of calories, it also promotes unhealthy cravings. Read here to find out exactly why.
You can get a craving for a greasy snack both on the evening itself and the following day.
Alcohol contains calories.
But how does that work? Why does alcohol stimulate the craving for fat, when you've just eaten? Besides, alcohol itself contains a lot of calories, and generally calories satisfy your hunger.
Brain cells
Here's how it works: alcohol keeps the hunger signals in your brain going. In a 'normal situation' (read: a sober situation), you only feel hungry when your stomach is empty. Your cells send a signal to your brain to indicate that it's time to eat. When you drink alcohol, a lot of things happen in your body and in your head. This also happens in the brain cells that receive the hunger signal. Alcohol stimulates these cells exactly. And that's how you suddenly feel like having a portion of fries or meatballs, even though you had planned to eat healthy.
