Need some extra inspiration for the holidays? Herewith a delicious Newfysic recipe of apple turnovers without added sugar. In this recipe the puff pastry has been replaced by the less fatty filo pastry.
Filo dough does tend to tear faster, so make the apple pieces very small.
Slim apple flapjacks
- Ingredients:
- 10 slices of filo pastry
- 4 sweet apples
- cinnamon
- 1 egg
- sweetener (Newfysic)
Preparation: Let the filo pastry thaw and come to room temperature (This takes ± 1½ hours). Preheat the oven to 200 °C. Peel the apples and cut them into very small pieces. Put the apple pieces in a bowl. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sweetener and mix well. Put the egg in a small bowl and stir with a teaspoon. Place a mound of apple pieces on each slice of filo pastry. So much, that later you can still easily fold squares closed. Then put a little egg on all four corners of the filo pastry. Now fold the squares closed. Brush the top of the apple turnovers with egg (with a brush or the back of a teaspoon). Bake the apple turnovers for about ten minutes at 200°C.
