GLP-1 medication decreases appetite and slows stomach emptying, among other things. This results in a lower calorie intake and weight loss. GLP-1 medication also causes a higher relative reduction in visceral fat (dangerous fat) than in subcutaneous fat.

1. Operation

• Stimulation of insulin release: GLP-1 medications work by mimicking the activity of the GLP-1 hormone in the body. This hormone stimulates the pancreas to release insulin when blood sugar levels are too high.

• Delayed gastric emptying: by slowing the rate at which food leaves the stomach. This can help promote a feeling of fullness and reduce the urge to overeat.
• Reduced hunger: In addition, GLP-1 medication can reduce appetite and promote the feeling of satiety.

2. Use

• Type 2 Diabetes: GLP-1 medications are often used as add-on therapy in the treatment of type 2 diabetes, especially in people in whom other treatments have not been effective.
• Overweight: It may also be prescribed to people who are overweight or obese to promote weight loss.

3. Dosage form

• GLP-1 medications are usually administered by injection, although oral forms are also available.

4. Side effects

• Although GLP-1 medications are generally well tolerated, side effects may occur, including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and decreased appetite.

Some examples of GLP-1 medications include liraglutide (Victoza, Saxenda), semaglutide (Ozempic, Wecovy, Rybelsus), Thirzepatide (Mounjaro), and dulaglutide (Trulicity).

Depending on the GLP-1 medication prescribed by the doctor, it varies from once a day to once a week at a fixed time.

The best places to inject are the front of your abdomen, the front of your thighs, or in your upper arms.

NewFysic offers two types of nutrition plans (subdivided based on calorie needs and gender):

• Nutrition plan with 5/6 meals spread throughout the day.
• Intermittent fasting diet plan following the 16-8 rule. Breakfast is skipped, and the first meal is at 12 noon. This allows the body 16 hours of rest to recover.

The client, in consultation with the coach, determines which of these nutrition plans is best suited.
