Let's be clear: eating enough fruits and vegetables is always a good thing. But if you want to lose weight, you do need to take a few things into account.
A mixture of vegetables and fruit; how could that possibly be unhealthy?
Vitamins and calories
It really depends on what you put in it, but generally most smoothies contain a lot of good nutrients. They replenish your vitamin supply and are a healthy start to the day. But if you want to lose weight, it's very important to pay attention to what you add to the 'healthy' ingredients. Because although fruits and vegetables are naturally very healthy, they are not all equally low in calories.
Ratio of fruits and vegetables
What can you do to reduce the number of calories? First of all, look at the amount of fruit compared to vegetables and make sure there are always more vegetables than fruit. You can also reduce the amount of fruit by replacing some of it with protein-rich products such as (soy) milk or (Greek) yogurt.
Choose fiber.
Something else to keep in mind: how fiber-rich the fruits and vegetables are that you use in your smoothie. Fiber plays a major role in weight loss. It creates a feeling of fullness, meaning you're less likely to eat or drink anything else and you'll stay full longer. A banana (often used in smoothies), for example, contains very little fiber, one of the reasons why this fruit isn't on the NewFysic shopping list. Blueberries, broccoli, and kale are very high in fiber. So be sure to add those to your shopping list if you plan on making a smoothie. Do you already follow NewFysic on Facebook and Instagram ?
