Healthy living not only manifests itself in a healthy body and mind, but also does your hair a lot of good. Do you see someone with a vibrant, full and shiny head of hair? Then you can assume that much of that is due to his or her diet. Read here to find out how.
And especially: what you need to do for such a shiny hairstyle.
Facts & figures
Healthy hair grows about 12 millimeters per month. Most hair falls out after about six years, after which new hair replaces it. Per day you lose about 100. In women, these figures fluctuate quite a bit throughout their lives. This has everything to do with
hormonen.

Care
A healthy, shiny head of hair starts with proper grooming.
- Don't wash your hair too often; use some dry shampoo in between to freshen it up.
- Use conditioner only in the ends of your hair.
- Drink enough: hair is 25% water.
- Try to style your hair as little as possible with a hair dryer or straightening iron: this will damage your hair.
- Visit your barber regularly to have split ends cut off.
- Let your hair air dry. Your hair is most vulnerable when wet. So dab gently with a towel and preferably do not use a hair dryer.
- Be sure to wash out your shampoo completely after shampooing so that no residue remains on your scalp or in your hair.
- Clean your hairbrush regularly; a lot of dirt can get stuck in it.
Nutrition
Healthy-looking and shiny hair is a reflection of diet. For beautiful hair, you should focus on foods rich in protein, beta-carotene, folic acid, biotin and omega-3 fatty acids.
- Lentils: this ingredient is packed with zinc, iron, protein and biotin. Biotin ensures cell growth and works to prevent hair loss. Do you have brittle hair? Then biotin is a good booster for a prosperous recovery. Note: only for vegetarians.
- Walnuts: you need these nuts to get your dose of healthy fats, omega-3 and biotin. Note: only for vegetarians (30 g per week).
- Spinach: this leafy vegetable is rich in folic acid, iron, beta-carotene and vitamin C. These substances nourish the hair follicles. Folic acid helps in the development of new hair cells.
- Salmon: You eat this fish explicitly for a full head of hair. Salmon contains fatty acids that the body does not make itself, such as omega-3. Don't like salmon? Then you can also choose to take a supplement, such as Omega 3&E van NewFysic.
