Get rid of fat ankles: here's how to retain less fluid

Thick ankles are often a result of retaining too much fluid. This can have different reasons with different solutions. But there is something you can do about it!

Fluid retention

Are you retaining a lot of fluid? This can have several causes:
  • You have been standing or sitting for too long.
  • Your period is coming or you are pregnant
  • Eating a lot of salt
  • Serious illness
You can notice fluid accumulation in different parts of your body. Perhaps The rings on your fingers are tighter than usual or your feet and ankles are so swollen that you'd rather take off your shoes at home as soon as possible.

Moisture, moisture, moisture

Often just sitting with your legs up after a low day or moving your fingers around a bit more again helps tremendously. But perhaps the most important thing is that you drink enough. That sounds contradictory: drinking more to retain less fluid. And yet it's true. Therefore, drink plenty of tea, water or other healthy drinks daily.

Less grains of salt

Also make sure you eat little or less salt. You can do this by cooking mainly with fresh products and not consuming too many carbohydrates. Do not cook from packets and sachets too often either: these often contain extremely high amounts of salt and therefore quickly cause bloating.

Draining vegetables

There are also certain foods that you can eat to reduce bloating and fluid retention. These include cucumber, celery and asparagus. But a slice of watermelon can also do wonders for a bloated belly.
