If you are following NewFysic, buying the right products based on your personal nutrition plan may be a little tricky at first. Put the shopping booklet in your bag so that you always have it with you while shopping. In addition, these tips may help you.
Anyone can do this!

Clean up

Before you plan your first grocery run, take a moment to look at what's actually in your kitchen cabinets. Set aside foods that don't fit into your personal nutrition plan (anymore). That way you start your NewFysic journey with a clean slate, or rather kitchen cabinet.

Know what you are eating

We often run through the supermarket only to disappear again as quickly as possible. As a result, we don't always make conscious choices. This checklist will help you make informed choices:
  • Packaging: Products are often excessively wrapped in plastic. But you can almost always take fruits and vegetables loose, for example. Sometimes you can't do otherwise, but is there an alternative? Then go for it. Better for the environment as well as your ever-filling trash can.
  • Hallmark: Hallmarks help you make a conscious choice when it comes to healthy and more sustainable products. They appear with a logo on the packaging. There are already more than 90 labels such as Organic, Fairtrade, Beter Leven and EKO.
  • Seasonal produce: All fruits and vegetables are naturally healthy. If you want to lose weight, choose fruits with less sugars. If you also want to do something for the environment, choose seasonal fruits and vegetables from your own neighborhood. These products are harvested at the right time and don't have to be flown in from far away or grown in a greenhouse. Check the fruit and vegetable calendar at the back of this booklet to determine which fruits and vegetables are best to eat this month.

Grocery shopping - never go hungry!

You walk through the supermarket and really EVERY product seems to be calling out to you. Shopping while hungry is tying the cat to the bacon. Make sure you have a full stomach before you enter the supermarket. That way you are less likely to be tempted by unhealthy products and you also have quiet time to read labels and make conscious choices.

The importance of a shopping list

  • Whether you have a note in your phone, use a special app for it or describe an old-fashioned notepad - the shopping list is your best friend.
  • It forces you to plan ahead by thinking about what you want to eat in the coming days and what you need to do so.
  • It keeps you from being tempted at the supermarket to make purchases you'll regret later (as in: sweet snacks calling your name from the cupboard when you're in a weak moment)
  • You save money: you don't buy things you don't actually need
  • It saves time: you don't wander aimlessly through the supermarket looking for products you don't yet know you need. With a shopping list at hand, you do your shopping twice as fast.
  • You avoid waste: you only buy what you really need.

How to make a killer shopping list

Divide groceries into groups: vegetables/fruit, dairy, fish/meat (substitutes), etc. That way you'll finish shopping faster (and spend less time browsing the unhealthy shelves. Good luck!!! Photo by NeONBRAND on Unsplash
