2. Limit the number of courses
You don't always have to have a starter, main and dessert. Often one dish is enough. A smart option is to share an appetizer with your dining companion and then enjoy a main course. End your dinner with a cup of coffee or tea: just as cozy and a lot lighter.
3. Don't go out the door hungry
Many people skip meals during the day in order to eat extra in the evening. This often backfires, because once at the table you can hardly resist the bread basket. Therefore, make sure you stick to your meal times and just spread some extra vegetables and protein throughout the day.
4. Ask for sauces and dressings separately

5. Watch your drinks
Of course a glass of wine or beer is fine, but try to limit it. Alternate with water or spa red. Tip: Have it served in a nice wine glass, possibly with a slice of lemon or lime. That way it feels extra festive and looks like you're drinking a cocktail. Join in the fun, without the calories!
