General tips

The most important advice: make the best possible choices and keep it fun.

  • Don't lose weight while on vacation; go for stability.
  • Go on vacation with the right mindset. The idea "now it's vacation, now I can do anything" is not the most convenient. If you want to live a healthy and balanced life, you will have to keep making choices even during the vacations. Making choices does not mean saying 'no' to everything, but think before you say 'yes' to an ice cream, cheese, wine or cake. Do you really feel like it? Or are you taking it because "it's a vacation"?
  • Enjoy and be conscious of what you eat and drink. And listen to your body. Enough is enough. (Even on vacation) so stop eating then.
  • Move! You can exercise anywhere, after all you only need your own body to do so. Walk, swim or maybe try a dance, it all helps.
  • Take fruit and a piece of cucumber or some cherry tomatoes with you for on the road or at the beach.
  • Fresh fruit is better than from a jar/can.
  • Rather boiled, steamed or grilled vegetables than French fries.
  • Water is better than juice/soft drinks.
  • Eat fish and meat preferably grilled.
  • Two courses is enough.

Een gezonde vakantie hoeft niet ingewikkeld te zijn

  1. Zorg ervoor dat je voldoende supplementen meeneemt op vakantie. Deze stimuleren de stofwisseling en onderdrukken het hongergevoel, waardoor je ook tijdens je vakantie de verleiding beter kan weerstaan.

  4. Have a good breakfast, which gets the burn going and don't skip meals.
  5. Oil and vinegar: If you go somewhere for lunch, order a salad or soup and eat two whole-grain crackers with it. In restaurants, ask for a salad without dressing and season it yourself with oil, vinegar, pepper and salt.
  6. Eat only when hungry: don't join in for fun all the time but eat only when you are really hungry.
  7. Water first the rest comes later. Never go out hungry, drink at least a glass of water before meals and drink plenty of water throughout the day.
  8. If you choose bread, always choose the whole grain varieties.
  9. If you drink alcohol, choose wine and not beer. Preferably dry white or red wine and try to drink two glasses of water with every glass of wine.
  10. If you eat out in the evening, have fish/meat and vegetables/salad and as few carbohydrates as possible (white pasta/rice and potatoes). Eat two whole wheat crackers before eating out to still get the carbs in.
  11. Shall we share? Restaurants usually serve large portions, share a main course with a tablemate or order an appetizer as the main course.
  12. Have a clear soup or carpaccio as an appetizer and ask for the dressing/oil of the carpaccio separately.
  13. Sauces separately: In restaurants, always ask if sauces and/or dressings can be served separately, then you can choose if and how much of these you use. Of course, try to limit these as much as possible.
  14. Nice touch: take healthy snacks with you on trips, such as an apple or boiled egg for the road. And make sure you have a meal every two to three hours.
  15. If you have a choice, eat the largest meal in the afternoon and settle for a little less in the evening. Also, skip dessert and opt for a cup of coffee or tea. This will save a lot of calories.
