Enjoy!

Tip number 1: Start reading labels

  1. On the ingredient list of a product, the ingredient it contains the most is listed first. That means that if sugar is somewhere at the front of the list, the product is largely made up of sugar. Wise then to look at a different variant.
  2. In addition, look at the nutritional value of a product. The nutritional value table will tell you how many kilocalories, fat, protein, sugars, carbohydrates, fiber and salt are in 100 g of the product. In addition, you can often find the nutritional values per serving in that table. Useful to know: saturated fat, sugar and salt we prefer to keep a little lower. Fiber and protein we prefer to keep a little higher.
  3. When choosing a grain product, make sure the product is whole grain. Whole grain products contain more fiber and provide a longer satiated feeling. A product may be called wholemeal if it consists of at least 50% wholemeal flour and not wheat flour.
  4. Did you know that... the recommendation for salt consumption per day is a maximum of 6 grams. However, salt is present in many products, bringing the average Dutch person to >9 grams per day. The advice when choosing a product to go for a variant with less salt.
  5. Did you know... sugar has no less than 77 different names. Some ways you can recognize these is if an ingredient ends in "-ose" (glucose, dextrose, fructose), concentrate or syrup.

Tip #2: Plan

Planning your diet will help you avoid unnecessary temptations and unhealthy choices. So plan what you eat!

Tip number 3: Shop consciously

While planning, make a shopping list for several days. This not only saves you time on grocery shopping, but also ensures that you only get what you need. That way there is less temptation to buy unhealthy(er) products.

Tip number 4: Still having doubts about a product?

Then you can always download the 'Weet wat je eet' app from the Voedingscentrum to scan a product code through the label/barcode of the product. This contains all the nutritional values of a product and the app also indicates whether it is in the 'Schijf van Vijf'. Did you know that with the NewFysic app you can keep your own grocery book? Always useful to consciously choose the right products!

Tip number 5: No inspiration?

Then you can always take a look at the recipes on our website or in the app. Did you know that you can even filter the recipes according to the different phases of the NewFysic journey? Do you really have no inspiration or no time? No problem! Then order the NewFysic meals. These meals are healthy, delicious and freezer freshly prepared for you! Will it be the Sticky cashew tofu tonight or would you rather go for the Baba ganoush with whole wheat pasta?
