The streets are quiet during dinner, but afterwards... People take a stroll, wander through the streets, and some have an ice cream. Italians not only know how to enjoy life, they also know what they need to do to stay fit and healthy.
And you can do that too.
The paths on
Italians call that post-dinner stroll the 'passeggiata'. After putting down their cutlery, they go out for a short (evening) walk. For Italians, it's a nice moment to stretch their legs and chat with the neighbours. And it's a perfect way to help digest the meal they've just eaten.
Run, run, run
Research shows that a 15-minute walk reduces the risk of diabetes and regulates blood pressure. Furthermore, getting some fresh air after a meal works wonders for your mood and helps you sleep better. Incidentally, three 15-minute walks are just as effective as one 45-minute walk.
More energy
Sounds like an
easy way to lose weight , right? Don't make a big deal out of it; it won't make you lose pounds in a week. But by taking a short walk after a meal, you'll notice that you'll get through the day with more energy. Furthermore, this trick prevents you from reaching for something sweet immediately after a meal.
